DIVISION OF STUDENT LIFE
LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP 2008 - 2009
GENERAL INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

Purpose

The purpose of the Student Leadership Scholarship is to support UNLV students in their higher education and recognize their contribution to the Division of Student Life and the UNLV community through involvement and leadership. There are ten $1000 scholarships available for the 2008-2009 academic year ($500 per semester).

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.75.
  • Applicants must be enrolled students who have completed at least 60 credit hours (Junior/Senior status), by the end of the Spring 2008 semester, with a total of 24              credits at UNLV.
  • Applicants must enroll at UNLV for Fall Semester 2008 through Spring 2009 as an undergraduate student.
  • Applicants must be full time students (12 credit hours).
  • Applicants cannot be receiving other scholarships for university leadership recognition (i.e. Student Government Leadership Scholarship).

Selection
           
A selection committee of students and staff within the Division of Student Life will evaluate applicants on the following criteria:

  • Leadership exhibited within organizations or programs associated with a department within the Division of Student Life
  • Impact on the UNLV campus (i.e. what have you done to affect positive change)
  • UNLV and Community Involvement
  • Academic Achievement (Cumulative Grade Point Average)

The Qualified Candidate

UNLV has adopted the Social Change Model of Leadership Development, defining leadership as the ability to recognize a need and work collaboratively with others to affect change.  The qualified candidate will demonstrate how their involvement and actions as a UNLV student leader have positively impacted other students within the campus community. 

Deadline

It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit completed applications before 5:00 pm on Monday, March 31, 2008.
